Why did we choose “Yuan” as the name for our teahouse?
In Chinese, “Yuan” is the sound of many words: it can be a garden (园), a circle (圆), a wish (愿)…
Of all its meanings, two are at the heart of our teahouse: 源, the source, and 缘, the bond that brings people together.
Layered with meaning, they speak of a quiet Chinese way of being.
We chose “Yuan” because tea, like life, is never one thing only.
A tea experience
Yuan is a tea experience.
Today we focus on selected teas from China, sourced with care and paired with food, starting with dumplings, our humble homage to gathering around a table.
Our teas meet tradition in the gongfu brewing style, and meet the contemporary in cold brews and tea-based mocktails.
But our story runs deeper
Our founder has spent over fifteen years walking tea gardens across Asia’s major tea-producing countries, China, Japan and Korea, guided by passion and respect for the leaf.
We share that experience through the teas we offer, and there is more to come.
